061710: Software Engineer (Melbourne, FL)

Description:
Riverside Technical Services, Inc. is seeking a qualified Software Engineer experienced in disciplined software development processes in Windows C++ and VB.NET. The individual will support our client in developing railroad dispatching systems for multi-national customers. This position is located in Melbourne (Brevard County), Florida.

The effort involves continued development of existing products and next-generation products. For the former, much of the work will involve product enhancements, troubleshooting and bug fixes for anomalies discovered in the field. Development task could likely include work in all the following areas: Window Application Development, Graphics Development, Database Development.

This is a great opportunity to get involved with a big player in the Rail industry and a lasting assignment with Riverside Technical Services, Inc. There is a lot of future work and new customers planned for these systems.

Candidate shall be familiar with and capable of developing project documentation as per the software development process. Travel for this position is unlikely. Work will be performed at the client site in Melbourne, FL


Essential Functions (Responsibilities):

• Designing and developing software for real-time systems (though not embedded systems) following a structured software engineering process
• Understanding the functionality and requirements of the scheduling and control system
• Interfacing with client and customer representatives in a professional manner
• OO Design Code updates and new functionality
• Code development
• Software validation : unit & integration testing
• Working within software configuration management - Rational ClearCase/ClearQuest
• Installation & check-out of developed application
• Effort estimations
• Participate in CCB meetings
• Conduct Formal Technical and Peer Reviews

Requirements:

• BS/MS Computer Science
• Minimum 1 year Professional Software Development on Windows
• MFC - In depth knowledge
• VB .NET Experience
• SQL Servers Experience including SQL Code and Client/Server applications
• Working knowledge of Crystal Reports, or experience with similar Database Reporting tools
• Minimum 1 year C++ software development
• Strong OOD Skills in Windows programming, GUI, Databases / SQL
• Knowledge of a disciplined software development lifecycle
• You must be 18 years or older
• You must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process
• You must be willing to take a pre-employment drug test as part of the selection process
• You must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States

Desirable Skills:

• Experience in the rail transit industry
• Understanding of standards like IEEE, DoD, MIL
• Understanding of quality model like ISO 9000, SEI-CMM and Six Sigma
• Experience with Rational Software development process
• Experience in distributed/complex systems, control systems, client /server, communications
• Proficient written and communication skills
